For the Working Class
What is it about those among (or claim to be) the elite that gives them the right to be arrogant, controlling, pompous asses? Just this last week dh has been at the mercy of such a dick-head. He had done some work for which cost great expense upfront. And now when it’s time to collect it seems he can not get relief. Granted he was hired by a general contractor and should be paid by said general contractor.
However, said general contractor insisted the owner of the property would pay him, so that is who we billed.
The object of this post is the ‘good?’ Dr. Lawrence M., an orthopedic surgeon practicing in Chesapeake, VA. This wealthy elitist owns a home on the beach in Carova, NC where dh did work to the tune of $3,100; $2,000 of which is parts and materials out of pocket.
Upon several attempts, contacts, faxes, phone calls and emails, no monies have been received for a job that is long since done. Sooooooo….dh sends a final ultimatum to this arrogant son of a bitch demanding payment or he will be forced to remove his name from the county permit and insist on the return of his job materials used in this project. All very professional.
I was utterly floored when dh showed me his original email with the reply from this doctor/surgeon. Obviously he is stalling payment for some reason or other. Not for lack of funds though since we already got the (rumoured?) scoop on his divorce that netted his ex-wife $800,000 and she was mad! He supposedly is worth millions.
The receptionist/assistant at the Dr.s office even phoned dh to ask for yet another invoice so they can get him a payment. This right here states that the Dr. believes he owes the money to dh. So back to the email… I noticed Mr. M. had copied his lawyer on his reply which was in-part as follows:
…now you are scaring me and I am in fear for my life…your threat of violence is uncalled for…and I have the means to follow through with legal persecution….
What?!!? Are you fucking kidding me? What threat of violence? The reply went on and on basically stating that dh better not take steps to recover his materials or he will sue for something or other.
Now I might be mistaken, but I believe dh is the one that has the right to sue for monies owed on work done. Instead of replying to this apparent tactic to avoid payment, dh decided to take it to small claims court via our lawyer. We are giving this until Friday then pursuing our own legal recourse.
In the meantime, the general contractor on this project got an email from Lawrence M. stating he would no longer respond to any phone calls or emails and that all contact must be made through the mail because he is just too busy.
What the hell??!! Too busy??? I don’t think that Lawrence works 7 days a week. I don’t for a minute think this idiot even blinks when he takes a month off of work to take an extended golf vacation! Don’t talk to me about busy when I barely see dh because he is running around taking care of assholes like Lawrence every single day of the week!!!
Why do those in positions of financial abundance try and take advantage of those with less? Why must this arrogant bastard use a power-play to usurp his duty to pay for work ordered? Or is it simply his idea of maintaining control over who, how and when?
I don’t know the reasoning for this elite surgeon’s lack of responsibility, but the ones who should be afraid are his patients. If the ‘good?’ doc handles his clientele the way he handles his contractors…well, shame on him!
It’s not like dh is a bank with unlimited finances at his disposal to take care of the whims of the elite without his getting prompt payment.
In my opinion, and my opinion ALONE, Dr. Lawrence M. of Chesapeake, Virginia should not be utilized by anyone in or out of the area for his lack of handling this situation in a courteous manner with prompt payment to his contractors. His sheer lack of ability to communicate appropriately should make one wary of his skills and bedside manner.

I don’t know how things work there but here the contractor or sub contractor can take a contractors lien out on the property, actually, it should have been taken out on the property when the work was contracted. Good luck, the guy sounds like a jerk.

Yeah, the contractors lien cost $50 per month for each month you want to pursue the claim. It’s not a one time thing…it has to be continued as a cost in hopes you will one day get the money! Not worth it. Hence the small claims court.
And yes, this is a jerk by definition!
I think small claims court is probably a good idea. It sucks that you have the expense and effort but hopefully it will be worth it in the end. Some people just have no respect for another person’s time and effort.
