Insanity?

Posted by Lisa on March 1, 2010 in Lisa Stuff |

You know the phrase, ‘a sign of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results’. I think that goes for anything, not just repetitious bad habits. What about day to day routine? Or the so called rut that so many find themselves in?

Perhaps I have written similarly to this topic before, but it has come to mind again as I questioned “isn’t there more? Am I not meant for greatness?” I love to write and finding a release for thought through written word is more empowering now as I entertain these questions.

This brings me back to the insanity rule:  if I keep limiting myself to the role I am in, and don’t deem worthy the attainment of higher aspirations of writing to audiences that would matter greatly in my furtherment, am I clearly insane?

Maybe. But then again it could simply be a matter of patience, or lack thereof, or taking a chance. The chance I speak of is submitting ideas or works to grand publishments in hope that I will be noticed and picked from the thousands they receive.

Ideas, thoughts and words, are screaming to be set free, so what am I waiting for? I have located several publishers to which I can submit a numerous variety of these ‘waiting to be great’ works of word.

There are so many writers out there, and I have come across quite a few recently, that it might just be fear of competition that holds my keys dormant at times. How can anyone be afraid of a little competition, for is it not in this very thing that greatness is found? Simply put: to rise to the top, you must have others below.

Fear is the obvious stumbling block for many an issue and will only prove to keep those frozen by it in a state of sameness. Or doing the same thing over and over again, in hopes of achieving different results.

Remaining aware of this ever present factor which keeps me from moving forward with greater speed will aid in it’s demise. Fear has left too many things undone, or paths untrodden.

What needs to be done can be done if steps, even baby steps, are taken to its end. As I write these words about my own learning’s, it is my hope that others will see themselves here too, and gain positive points from which to move forward.

As I learned harshly in the last years from someone near and dear, without hope and purpose to fulfill the human need for achievement, we might as well be dead.

And though my personal hope to achieve a level of greatness through found purpose tends to remain just out of reach, I believe today is the day I will get started on the idea that would be perfect for submission to a well-known publication.

No more following the insanity rule here!

Our mind is our enemy when we want to achieve something in life. It will conjure everything to prevent you from working on your aspirations. Unless you go against the negative dictum of your mind, you cannot achieve greatness.

Work on your dreams everyday despite the negative nagging of your mind, and believe me, you will achieve greatness. :-)

  • You know, it sounds like some sort of mid-life crisis kind of line of thinking. I’ve gone through a period of that a few years ago (when I hit 33) and someone older and wiser told me then to expect a repeat every few years ;) I think I may be feeling it coming on again, as I’m playing these “bucket lists” through my head… but I also feel content to wait it out until the kids get a bit older and I have more “me time” and fewer obligations.

Thank you for the refreshing article, Lisa! As Mark Twain said:

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
