Pop-up’s Up

Posted by Lisa on July 17, 2010 in Hobbies, Lisa Stuff, Seasonal Spice, Sports, Sort of |

So after a back breaking morning, the pop-up is up. Yes, I did it all by myself. Not without sweating buckets, but just the same I feel pride in this accomplishment.

To back up a bit, I spent one night on the road at the Hampton Inn in Florence, SC then drove the rest of the way to Oak Harbor Campground. This is where I decided that after hauling the damn thing for two days, constantly making sure I never get into a backing predicament and blocking traffic at an intersection because I didn’t want to back up (lots of honking and one fingered salutes), to let the park manager back it into the site. Quite nicely done I must say.

Then you may be asking, how in the world did she get that thing set up after driving under stress for two days, through Orlando traffic (craziest, I say) and under the already hottest part of the day?

Ha! I unhooked the bitch and drove to the nearest Hampton Inn I passed near I-4 about 10 miles back. This was such a relief for this adventure girl. Nice plush bed and no bugs for me tonight! Tomorrow will start the next part:  setting it up, as you see here and making numerous calls to dh. Where is the cap to fit the hose to the water spigot? What happened to the stakes for the canopy?  I must of made a dozen calls before feeling confident enough to set up house and stay a while.

But best of all was that I did not have a long enough cord to reach the power meter! Another call to dh who suggested I move the trailer. No way. It was back up as close to a huge Oak tree as possible. Why not move to another site? Seriously, after setting it up I was not going to move it.

So, I walked to the neighbors who were enjoying there morning coffee and asked where I might obtain an extension. Oh they were nice enough to lend me theirs, but they were leaving tomorrow. So they suggested Camping World in Kissimmee. Got the damn extension for $50 and had power by noon. Then the best-est, best dh phone call:  Why is there water dripping off the top of the camper? (this was a duh moment; the AC silly!)

I have never been in a pop up but I think it is the only kind of camping I would tolerate. I hate tents and have no desire to sleep in the great outdoors. I am glad you were able to get power. It sounds almost like home.

That sounds so cool! I would just love to hit the open road with something like that. But… I’d HATE to drive with it. You are brave. Should we ever go camping big time, I’m going to sleep on a mattress in the minivan, and the kids will sleep in tents. No AC, I know, but at least I’d be able to drive!

Rebecca, yeah that’s why it’s staying put in FL. If we move it, it won’t be very far. Def not driving it back to NC.

What’s next? How ’bout a quick trip this weekend to Panama City FL to pick up mom @ airport then visit brother (http://clarkcoleman.com) in prison on Saturday. Then drive down to Gainesville on the way back to camper to visit nephew @ Firehouse subs (he manages the store).

So much to do, but stay on the computer as much as possible.

Did I read in your last post that you’re ALONE? Driving with the pop-up and putting it up ALL BY YOURSELF? You so rock. I’m so jealous…. :)

    Have fun!

I’m not sure I could ever manage pulling a trailer… I think I’ll have to stick to my tent!
