Winning Ticket
Ending this afternoon’s work as a new freelance writer, I took a short ride to the neighborhood convenience store for the libation of the day. As was usual, I found myself standing in line behind the always present unknown priced item and it’s would be purchaser.
Waiting, waiting…finally I got to second in line and noticed the cashier giving the patron at the counter a high-five. Apparently he had won some sort of amount on a lottery ticket.
I peered closer, looking around his shoulder as she counted out five $20 bills. He had just one a cool $100 for his efforts. I uttered my somewhat, congratulatory grunt and he turned to me and smiled, tucking the bills into his pocket and walking toward the exit.
The cashier proceeded to share that he plays every day: comes in after work everyday and buys a ticket.
To this my first thought is “how much has he spent on tickets before the win?” 20, 30, 200 dollars? Did he really win after all or just break even?
I only really consider all this a point to posting since hubby and I have recently decided to spend $40 per week on the big draws: Mega Millions and Power Play here in North Carolina. Now, being a strong advocate of you-gotta-play-to-win, it was time to get into the odds and take a chance.
Do we really expect to win? No. I don’t even remember to compare the winning numbers until something triggers this action like seeing an ad on the telly. But who knows? Maybe, just maybe we could be the next millionaire.
Be sure we have definite plans for what we would do if specific amounts were won. Sharing much is limited to the IRS take on the winning lot. And don’t let me get started on that issue. For those who know me at all, I could build a whole blog for my take on this government entity.
Hmmm….but I digress.
The lottery and it’s possibilities keep many filled with the hope to achieve stature far above their current status, which is now merely endured. My household is definitely among the hopeful, but know not to overspend, or stupidly spend last dollars, on the lottery dream.
However, any insight into finding that ideal combination of numbers to play, and quantity to purchase, would greatly be appreciated. Can’t say, though, that I’ll be putting much effort towards that end as my current fulfillment seems to be writing and following the like-minded.
Anyway, those of you who’ve found success playing the odds with lottery, do share…it gives the rest of us hope!
Luv

I don’t usually play the lottery unless it’s really high. I did win $10k at a casino once (on quarter slots) so I figure I have had my win. But, I do like to imagine what I would do if I were to win a boat load of money. Screw the government, I’d give so much away, in cash, that they would never know.
